A luxurious and quirky hotel, located inside a Victorian naval fortress
At a glance
Spit Bank Fort is an unusual and intriguing location for a hotel. Built to defend Portsmouth dockyard 150 years ago, when Britain was in fear of French invasion, this is one of five forts built on the Solent, two of which now operate as hotels. With walls some 15 feet thick, and many incredible original features, the bedrooms and public areas at Spit Bank Fort combine timeless luxury with quirky style and vintage touches. There are two bars, a restaurant, a 'wine cave' and a rooftop terrace with a hot pool, sauna and fire pit. A wide range of packages are available, including stag and hen weekends, corporate functions, and weddings.
