La Petite Maison is modelled on and named after its sister restaurant in Nice, and the light, open-plan room does indeed have a Mediterranean feel to it, with its large frosted-glass windows, open-to-view kitchen, buzzy atmosphere and staff who respond to customers without hovering. The cooking brings a touch of the Med to Mayfair too, and the food has been applauded for its quality, freshness and appealing simplicity. Starters run from pissaladière, through carpaccio with pickle, to deep-fried courgette flowers with sage and anchovies. All dishes are devised to be shared, even main courses (although the menu doesn't say so) of, say, turbot with artichokes, grilled veal chop, or warmly-reported roast black-leg chicken stuffed with foie gras.
