The Flying Childers Inn

Main Road, STANTON IN PEAK, DE4 2LW

Above this instantly likeable, charmingly old-fashioned village pub looms Stanton Moor, riddled with Neolithic stone monuments. At the heart of a pretty old Peak District estate village, The Flying Childers was named after a champion racehorse owned by the 4th Duke of Devonshire. Little log fires warm the cosy, beamed interior, where settles and magpie-furniture fit an absolute treat. The lunchtime-only menu is small but perfectly formed; hot roast pork filled cobs with stuffing and roast potatoes or maybe a rabbit and vegetable casserole, all with locally sourced ingredients. Local real ales, a beer garden and a great welcome for canine companions, too.
