65 Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, LONDON, NW1 8JH
Built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1841, this unassuming street corner pub stands tucked away in a residential part of Primrose Hill close to Camden Market. It attracts a discerning dining crowd who relish its imaginative and well-prepared food and friendly, laid-back atmosphere. There is a spacious bar area, wood floors, sturdy wooden tables with candles, simple décor and cosy upstairs private dining rooms. A walled, paved and heated garden to the rear is popular in fine weather. In addition to cosmopolitan beers, the drinks list includes hand-crafted teas, freshly ground coffees, interesting wines, and a variety of whiskies. Regularly changing menus feature an eclectic mix of inspired home-made dishes using organic and free-range products. A typical Sunday lunch menu may feature rabbit terrine with piccalilli to start, followed by roast duck with plums and braised red cabbage, or lamb shoulder with confit garlic and mint sauce. Leave room for bitter chocolate pudding with malt ice cream.
