Old Romsey Road, CADNAM, SO40 2NP
The name of this friendly thatched establishment comes from a folksong celebrating the transformation of barley to beer. It is formed from three 12th-century cottages, one of which was reputedly home to the charcoal burner who discovered the body of King William Rufus. Beers on offer are Fuller's London Pride and HSB, while ciders are represented by Westons Stowford Press. The menu has something for everyone with quick snacks and sandwiches, a children's menu and traditional dishes like home-made steak and ale pudding and toad-in-the-hole. More inventive options are crab and lobster ravioli and slow-cooked lamb shank.
