Sir John Barleycorn

Old Romsey Road, CADNAM, SO40 2NP

This friendly thatched establishment is reputedly the oldest inn in the New Forest, formed from three 12th-century cottages, one of which was once home to the charcoal burner who discovered the body of King William Rufus. Its name comes from a folksong celebrating the transformation of barley to beer. The menu has something for everyone with quick snacks and sandwiches, a children's menu and traditional dishes like stuffed oven-baked chicken, slow-cooked lamb shank, and beer-battered cod and chips with minted mushy peas.
