"In this job you occasionally come across some well-known faces, and a while ago I got called out to attend a VIP (I’ll say no more than he was involved with the England rugby team).
"Apparently he had reported a flat rear tyre to his Personal Assistant, who in turn had phoned the AA.
"I drove the 80-odd miles from Weston-super-Mare to Hartpury equestrian college in Gloucester, only to find no flat tyre on the car.
"When the PA came out she was somewhat confused and decided to call the VIP and ask which tyre he was talking about. That was when she nearly died of embarrassment, as he told her it was the rear tyre on his pushbike on the bike rack.
"Well, she couldn’t apologise enough to me but I just laughed and said it was fine – and yes, I fixed the puncture.”
