Our customers say ...

Many thanks to instructor Steve Clouder of Biggin Hill who took me out today after a nine-year absence from driving … He was very patient, had a great sense of humour, and put me at my ease immediately. This is such a brilliant idea, so many thanks to the AA for making it all possible.

Development of a driving course for nervous drivers has won the AA Charitable Trust a prestigious road safety award.

Drive Confident course

If you're a qualified driver who'd like refresher driver training to increase your confidence on the road, you could take a Drive Confident course with one of the AA's qualified driving instructors.

Be prepared for on-the-spot fines

Many inexperienced drivers will risk fines for careless driving on motorways. Our Drive Confident course can ensure that you're aware of the issues involved with the careless driving penalties, and have enough driving skill and confidence to avoid them.

In-car training

The in-car sessions will include:

  • an initial assessment
  • guided practice and coaching
  • a workbook to support your in-car sessions

There's no test at the end of the course – the sessions are simply about helping you become a more confident driver.

You'll get valuable guidance and feedback, and the confidence and skills to tackle any route. You also get the choice of taking the course in either your or the instructor's car.

A Drive Motorway course will give you:

  • new skills to make you a safer motorway driver
  • extra familiarity with the rules of motorway driving
  • increased motorway driving confidence
  • awareness and skills to avoid penalties for careless driving

Careless driving: avoid penalties with Drive Motorway

In 2013 the government announced penalties to tackle tailgating and middle-lane hogs under a careless driving fixed penalty offence.
The police have the power to issue fixed penalty notices for some forms of careless driving, and to offer educational training as an alternative to endorsement.

A pupil celebrating passing her test

Once you pass your test you can drive on the roads unaccompanied, but it’s important to remember that you're still an inexperienced driver.
