Our instructor communication systems allow you to manage your workload and diary easily – by phone, or with an online diary.
You make the decisions, you choose how and when you want to work. And you'll be able to count on us to support your business when you need it.
When you start with the AA, you'll have a great team of people behind you, and you'll have all the kudos and respect of the AA brand.
We'll assign you a dedicated adviser for your first few months and arrange meetings with your local instructor coach.
To start you off, our development programme will familiarise you with our processes, give advice on business planning, marketing and customer care. You'll have a chance to meet with other new AA instructors, and take delivery of your new tuition car.
To help you run your business efficiently on a day-to-day basis, you'll have access to:
And when you're ready for more responsibility you can pursue development through our Training Academy, which gives AA driving instructors priority access to fleet training.
You choose where you want to work, and the days and hours that fit around your lifestyle. A Standard Franchise will give you the benefits and support that you want.
If you are just starting out as a driving instructor, choose our Standard Franchise. It will give the best possible start to your instructor career.
The standard option has been designed for instructors who want to benefit from our quality brand name and our customer support, but also need support for pupil supply or coaching.
This option includes:
Solo cars are unbranded, so you'll be able to put your own branding on the doors.
If you're an independent instructor, you can now benefit from our 'tuition vehicle only' scheme that will provide you with a training car with all running costs except fuel and consumables included as standard.
You'll have a new car every 52 weeks, and if you have an accident or breakdown, the car will be replaced within 48 hours in most cases to keep your business on the move. You won't be tied into a lengthy minimum hire period, and you can opt for a fast track upgrade to any other franchise option at any time to take advantage of the benefits and support enjoyed by our franchised instructors.
With the Solo scheme, all the Solo Saver benefits are included, plus:
Get the security of a trusted brand, with a lower fixed weekly fee and competitive pay-per-use mileage charge.
This option is a great new way to manage your business. The franchise comes with all the security that goes with the trusted AA Standard Franchise and the flexibility of a lower fixed weekly fee plus pay-per-use mileage charge.
An economic way to run your business with the freedom you want, plus the back-up and support from the AA when you want it – the latest innovation in driving instructor franchises.
Our Associate Franchise is an option designed for instructors who want to be part of the AA Driving School and benefit from our quality brand name and the customer support, but don't need any support for pupil supply or coaching. This option is for instructors who are experts in self-marketing and can source their own pupils.
Your tuition car is your mobile workplace, so your personal comfort and efficiency is vitally important. Our cars offer great performance and reliability, and will be a safe and comfortable environment for you and your pupils. You'll have a brand new replacement car every 52 weeks, and servicing at 12,500 mile intervals is included.
You'll have the benefit of AA breakdown cover, and in case of emergency or breakdown we'll supply a replacement car within 48 hours in most cases to keep your business moving. If you have our Standard Franchise, the replacement car will be supplied within 24 hours in most cases.
Our standard tuition car is the Ford Fiesta 1.0T 100ps Titanium petrol manual, but with most of our franchises you'll be able to opt to upgrade to a diesel, automatic, or Ford Focus 1.0T EcoBoost 100ps Zetec. (Cars subject to availability of vehicle stock.)
Cars for all franchise options come with:
Both models have plenty of leg and headroom, and have a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Your tuition car will be covered by comprehensive insurance for you and your pupils, and you can nominate a second driver (subject to acceptance) for private use.
If you've asked us for new pupils, as soon as we have a new pupil for you we'll be able to notify you quickly by SMS on your mobile.
We actively encourage you to recruit your own pupils as this helps to keep down your franchise costs, but with the standard franchise we can help provide pupils for you while you get established. We successfully generate thousands of new pupils, handled 362 days a year through our award-winning call centre in Cardiff.
Pupil introductions are on a pay-per-use basis – the low cost is covered with the first two hours of tuition, and you can opt to have a supply of new pupils whenever you need it.
To help generate pupils for your business, we run extensive marketing and advertising campaigns throughout the year covering every area of the country.
We also provide you with access to a selection of professional marketing materials which you can personalise to attract your own pupils locally.

Make the most of the opportunities offered by the AA's involvment in fleet and police training schemes.
The AA Driving School and AA DriveTech have created a new Training Academy to provide development opportunities for our franchised instructors. This will give AA instructors priority access to fleet training and Driver Awareness courses that are currently offered by AA DriveTech – an established provider of fleet risk management and driver education.
Fleet risk training provides comprehensive programmes for everything from cars to coaches and trucks, reducing driving risks, but also addressing fuel consumption, insurance premiums, and risks from legal prosecutions.
Current risk management programme partners include ASDA, Sainsbury's, Transport for London and Waitrose.
AA DriveTech also operates 'driver awareness' courses to a number of UK police forces. The police offer courses to drivers who have committed offences or have been involved in an 'at fault' collision.
