"The scouts' sponsored ride went ahead"

#ithappenedtome

"When I'm not out on the road helping our members, I spend some of my spare time helping out at my local scout group in Leicester.

"One Saturday morning 25 of us were about to set off on a sponsored bike ride to Skegness, to raise much-needed funds for essential building repairs to our scout headquarters. The plan was to cycle the 82 miles there, stay overnight and then come back on Sunday morning in the scout mini-bus. Foolproof.

"That was until Sid the driver told me that the minibus wouldn’t start.

"After a quick look I realised that there was no spark, and as I didn’t have my kit with me there was nothing I could do – except call for a little help from my friends at the AA.

"While Sid waited for AA patrol Rob Morris to arrive, the rest of us set off in the hope that miracles do happen. And behold they do, because Rob managed to sort out what was a very tricky wiring fault so that Sid could catch us up in time to dish out refreshments, and ensure all 25 of us had a more comfortable ride home the next day."
