"The AA Patrol had me in stitches"

#ithappenedtome

"I’m a guerrilla knitter (aka a yarnbomber) and my work has appeared on TV programmes such as ‘The One Show’ and ‘The Alan Titchmarsh Show’. For those of you who don’t know, guerrilla knitting as a form of street art that aims to put a bit of colour and warmth into drab and cold public places.

"Anyway, in January my car broke down in the forecourt of my local disability scooter showroom and I immediately called the AA who told me that a patrol would be with me shortly.

"While I was waiting for the patrol to arrive, I had an idea. I went into the showroom and asked the manager if I could guerrilla knit a few of his scooters and then ride them at our local carnival to help raise funds for a pensioner charity. I’m pleased to say that he agreed.

"When the patrol arrived we got chatting and I told him all about what I do and the yarnbombing I was going to undertake for the carnival and the charity. He then asked me if I was a manual knitter or a machine knitter. This really made me laugh, as I have never heard hand knitting described as ‘manual knitting’ before and loved the use of mechanic speak.

"Not only did the patrol make me laugh though, he also promptly diagnosed my car’s problem and fixed it."
