Our breakdown cover
With our starting level of breakdown cover you'll get Roadside Assistance, which is 24/7 support from a trained patrol if your car, van or motorbike breaks down more than 1/4 mile from your home.
- If we can't fix the fault at the roadside, our vehicle recovery service will take you to a nearby garage – it's that simple
- Get unlimited call-outs, subject to policy terms. Repeat call-outs for the same fault within 28 days are not covered3
- You can also add options such as At Home, which gives you cover right up to your doorstep
What types of breakdown cover are there?
There are 4 types of breakdown cover policy, allowing you to select the best type of cover for your specific driving needs. We cover any non-commercial vehicle as standard, including cars, vans, motorbikes and electric vehicles (EVs).
Single personal cover
Personal breakdown cover for you as a driver or passenger in any eligible vehicle.
Joint personal cover
Breakdown cover for you and someone you live with, as drivers or passengers in any eligible vehicle.
Family personal cover
Breakdown cover for you and up to 3 other people you live with, as drivers or passengers in any eligible vehicle.
Vehicle cover
Breakdown cover for one nominated eligible vehicle, whoever's behind the wheel.
How can I customise my AA breakdown cover?
You'll get Roadside Assistance as standard, but you can customise your cover to fit your needs – giving you more choices in the event of a breakdown. Whether it's a quick fix at the roadside or recovery to a garage, we've got you covered.
At Home
If your vehicle won't start or breaks down within 1/4 mile of your home, you'll get breakdown recovery to a nearby garage. This extends our Roadside Assistance coverage straight to your door.
National Recovery
If you break down and we can't fix your vehicle at the roadside, we'll take you, your vehicle and up to 7 passengers to any single UK destination, subject to policy terms and vehicle eligibility. This is handy to have if you travel far away from home.
Onward Travel
If you break down and need repairs that stop your journey, we’ll help with overnight accommodation or alternative transport – like a replacement car hire or money towards public transport costs.
Parts and Garage Cover
If you call us out for a breakdown and need garage repairs, we’ll help cover eligible garage repair costs up to £535 per claim, with a £35 excess and annual claim limits, subject to the separate Parts and Garage Cover terms.
Tyre Cover
If your tyres need to be repaired or replaced after a breakdown, we'll help cover eligible repair or replacement costs up to £160 per tyre, subject to the separate Tyre Cover terms.
Commercial Use
If you have an eligible vehicle being used to carry equipment, people or goods in return for payment, you can add Commercial Use. Fleets of 3 or more vehicles need business breakdown cover.
Key Cover
If your car keys or house keys are lost, stolen or broken, or you're locked out, we'll arrange a replacement key or locksmith, subject to the separate Key Cover terms.

- Your vehicle must be taxed, insured and have a valid MOT certificate
- We cannot provide assistance if you call us out for the same fault within 28 days
