Discovering what professional drivers

really think - AA DriveTech research reveals fascinating data

AA DriveTech Driver CPC training

Knowing only too well how crowded the Driver CPC training supplier market was likely to be, AA DriveTech was determined to enter the fray with high quality, value-for-money courses that really delivered quantifiable benefits to both individual drivers and their employers.

Before deciding on the course topics and content, the company was determined to understand what made its prospective customer base tick and also how it viewed various aspects of their jobs. As a result AA DriveTech commissioned some field-based, face to face market research* with both LGV and PCV drivers, which revealed some interesting facts and figures.

Although many of the findings are of a commercially advantageous nature and will therefore remain confidential, AA DriveTech is happy to share some of the data gathered:

  • When asked how they viewed their jobs, 65.5% of drivers said they either liked or loved their jobs. 16% said they did it just for the money and 18.5% a combination of both.
  • When asked about who they believed was responsible for their own career development, 29% of drivers claimed that it was theirs and theirs alone, whereas 41% believed that it was their employers’ responsibility. 30% of drivers accepted that it was a shared responsibility.
  • 60.5% of all drivers interviewed had attended a trade show or exhibition relevant to their transport sector.
  • 41% of all interviewees had voluntarily attended either TruckFest-type events or Truck Race meetings. Surprisingly perhaps, a significant percentage of coach drivers had attended these too!

*Data drawn from one sample carried out in the West Midlands area over a six week period comprising 100 LGV drivers and 100 PCV drivers.
