Breakdown Repair Cover

What's Breakdown Repair Cover?

After the inconvenience of a breakdown, the last thing anyone needs is a costly repair bill to get the car back on the road.

If your car needs replacement parts at the roadside, or worse, it needs to be towed to a garage for repairs, costs can mount up.

Breakdown Repair Cover covers the cost of parts and labour, following a breakdown attended by the AA.

How Breakdown Repair Cover could help you

Almost £5 million – that's how much we saved our Members on breakdown repair costs last year.

Say your car needs a new head gasket. While our Patrols do their best to get you back on the road, some faults can't be fixed by the roadside, so you'd be towed to a garage where it can be replaced.

Total cost = £385*
You just pay a £25 excess
Your Breakdown Repair Cover would take care of the rest of the bill.

Imagine you'd been off to the coast for a much needed break, but it was your car that broke down instead.

Faced with this £385* garage bill for parts and labour, you'd have not only missed a day at the seaside, but this unexpected cost may have affected other plans you had too.

Breakdown Repair Cover covers the most common breakdown causes. In fact, each claim covers up to £500 worth of breakdown repairs, including VAT.

How much will it cost?

Adding Breakdown Repair Cover to your Roadside Assistance cover costs from just £69.50 for a whole year's peace of mind. That's the cost of an average car battery.

That entitles you to five claims of up to £500 – that's up to £2,500 worth of cover as a result of breakdowns attended by the AA.

How to claim

Once you've nominated a vehicle to be covered by Breakdown Repair Cover:
1. Keep it serviced in line with the manufacturers' recommendations. Servicing must be completed by a suitable garage business.
2. If you break down, you need to call the AA for assistance for any subsequent claim to be considered.
3. You can only claim on your Breakdown Repair Cover policy for faults that occur at least 14 days after the policy start date.
4. If you change your nominated vehicle, you won't be able to claim for 14 days after making the change.
