Pay as you go service for cars, vans, large goods vehicles and trucks
For trucks and LGVs – at home or in Europe* – we can send help in the event of a breakdown emergency. Our specialist rescue service is pay for use, so once you've paid the annual administration fee you only pay if a vehicle breaks down.
Invoices for all European repair work are charged in sterling to simplify administration. And before any repairs are carried out a detailed estimate of breakdown costs can be submitted for your approval – giving you total control over your costs.
This pay for use cover offers a flexible alternative to fleet breakdown cover in the UK for cars and LCVs under 3.5 tonnes. You pay an annual administration fee and tell us which services you'll require should any of your vehicles break down. Then every time you use the service we'll send you a fully detailed invoice. If you don't break down, you won't receive any further invoices. Simple.

Are there any restrictions for the vehicles you cover?
We cover vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. The Pay for Use (PFU) service covers vehicles of any weight.
Call 0800 55 11 88 and ask which level of cover would best suit your company. We also offer cover for specialist vehicles, eg taxis, ambulances.
What do you mean by Pay for Use?
Once you've paid an initial fee, you only pay each time you call us out.
I have a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) – can it be covered under AA Business Breakdown Cover?
No. You would need to take out Pay for Use.
How much is the VAT on AA Business Breakdown Cover?
VAT is not imposed on AA Business Breakdown Cover.
How long does it take to open my account?
Your account will be opened as soon as we receive your completed application form and payment.
How soon will I receive my breakdown cards?
You should receive your breakdown cards around seven days after your account is opened.
When will I be able to use my AA Breakdown Cover?
You can use your breakdown cover 48 hours after opening an account.
Do I need my breakdown card if I need to call out the breakdown service?
The breakdown card has the telephone number for your driver to phone in a breakdown situation, and will help us to track your details. And you will need to produce a valid breakdown card when the Patrol attends the breakdown.
Will my company be invoiced if a Patrol has to fit spare parts?
For PFU customers the Patrol would fit the part and you would be invoiced for this on the next monthly invoice date.
For AA Business Breakdown Cover customers the driver would have to pay for the part there and then unless alternative arrangements had been made prior to call-out.
What if I sell one of my covered vehicles mid-way through my breakdown cover period?
You can add another vehicle in its place at any point up to renewal of your cover. If a replacement vehicle is not allocated, a refund or credit cannot be given.
Is my vehicle covered in Europe?
No. You need to take out Fleet Europe annual cover.

What countries are covered by Fleet Europe?
You should depart from either Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.
You will be covered within the following countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy and San Marino, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
