Private Fuel Benefit Calculator
Is private fuel benefit cost-effective?
Does your employer pay for the private fuel on your company car? Did you know you have to pay a separate tax on this free fuel benefit? It's an all-or-nothing charge based, since April 2003, on the CO2 emissions of your company car.
Prior to 2003, private fuel benefit was based on scale charges published by the Inland Revenue. These rose yearly by 20%, in real terms, between 1998 and 2002.
Unless you clock up a lot of private miles, you could be better off paying for your own fuel rather than taking the 'free' fuel benefit and paying the tax. Use our simple calculator to help you make an informed choice.
