Public Sector Strikes

Advice for AA Travel Insurance customers whose travel plans are disrupted as a result of a strike or industrial action in the UK or abroad, e.g. air traffic control strikes.

If you purchased an AA Travel Insurance policy* and booked your trip before the strike or industrial action was planned, then cover will be available under the Delayed Departure section of your policy, as follows:

Delayed Departure

If departure of the scheduled public transport on which you are booked to travel is delayed at the final departure point from, or to, the United Kingdom for at least 12 hours from the scheduled time of departure, due to:

a) a strike or
b) industrial action

we will pay you £30 for the first full 12 hours delay and £10 for each following full 12 hours delay after that, up to a limit of £100.

This is subject to the usual terms and conditions of the policy, which state that you must have checked‑in in accordance with the itinerary supplied to you. However, if you are advised of a delay prior to departure, claims may be considered subject to written confirmation from the carrier.

If you are delayed for more than 24 hours you may be eligible to claim under the Holiday Abandonment section of the policy.

* This cover does not apply to AA Travel Insurance Essentials policies and is restricted to Holiday Abandonment on Backpacker policies.
