A London trip need not break the bank. Here are five of the best B&Bs that offer a quality stay at a good price.

Exhibitions, shows, shopping and top restaurants – there's always a good excuse for visiting London. Better still, stay overnight for a slower, more relaxing getaway. The AA inspects lots of guest accommodation in the city, and here are five of the best.

The Windermere, SW1V

This is a relaxed, family-run boutique establishment. Bedrooms vary in size, and are stylish, comfortable and well equipped. The Pimlico restaurant serves good quality evening meals and hearty cooked breakfasts. 2017 sees two anniversaries at The Windermere; 30 years of ownership by The Hambi family, and 160 since it was built. Close by are Victoria Station, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, and Tate Britain.

Number 63, Bayswater Road, W2

Number 63 offers a tranquil environment a short walk from Lancaster Gate tube. Comfortable bedrooms consist of singles and twins as well as a triple room. Hot snacks are available (by prior arrangement) and a good continental or cooked breakfast is served in the mornings. This location is ideal for Paddington station, and a stroll across Hyde Park takes you to the museums of Exhibition Road, and the Albert Hall.

San Domenico House, SW3

This stunning property in the heart of Chelsea offers beautiful bedrooms, all with antique and period pieces, and well-appointed en suites complete with Italian Spa toiletries. A sumptuous drawing room with wonderful works of art is the place to relax or enjoy afternoon tea. Breakfast is served in guests' bedrooms or in the elegant dining room. The Exhibitionist, South Kensington SW7

The Exhibitionist is aptly named, as it’s within a stone’s throw of the Natural History Museum and Exhibition Road. It is also something of an exhibition in itself, containing numerous works of art and eccentric design elements. Friendly hospitality and attentive service are on offer, and the themed bedrooms are sumptuously furnished; some have a private terrace. Public areas include lounges and an elegant bar.
