Lamb & Lion Inn

2-4 High Petergate, YORK, YO1 7EH

2 rosettes

Seamlessly grafted into the ancient city walls of medieval York, the Lamb & Lion pleases all comers, young and old, locals and visitors. The undisputed classic of the kitchen is a steak pie to be proud of, and Sunday roasts offer topside or pork loin with Yorkshires and proper stock-pan gravy. Elsewhere, things get more cosmopolitan, with starters of red mullet on crab and coriander risotto, or crackled pork belly in cider vinegar caramel. Then comes coley fillet on paella, or pot-roasted duck breast with herbed pommes Anna, braised red cabbage and a multitude of cherries. To finish, there's crème brûlée, given an old-English touch with quince.
