Ferrymans Way, Portland Road, WYKE REGIS, DT4 9YU
Situated in a spruced up wooden hut overlooking Chesil Beach, the Crab House Café has natural charms aplenty. Simplicity and freshness is the name of the game, with oysters coming from their own beds out front and everything sourced from within a 40-mile radius. Rustic pub-style benches outside are a treat in the warmer months of the year, but it's all well and good if you've got to eat inside, with an open-to-view kitchen and easy-going attitude. Kick off with some oysters either au naturel or with combos of pesto/parmesan and bacon/cream. A starter of queenie scallops comes topped with a paprika-flavoured gratin and an asparagus purée, or go for Thai fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce. The fresh crabs are hard to ignore - with Chinese spicing perhaps - or go for another main course such as roasted skate with chorizo and spring onions. Finish with a crème brûlée served in a coffee mug.
