The Killingworth Castle

Glympton Road, WOOTTON, OX20 1EJ

1 rosettes

The inn has been an integral part of its community since the 1630s. When the Alexanders (who also run the Ebrington Arms near Chipping Campden) took over in 2012, the old place received the investment it needed, while retaining all its earthy charm and period character. It's the kitchen's output that makes the place stand out - imaginative cooking that isn't unduly fussy. Mackerel on tapenaded toast comes topped with salami and dressed in parsley oil to start, ahead of stone bass with creamed leeks in chicken jus, or rose veal with girolles and white bean purée. End on a high with chocolate mousse and peanut parfait.
