Seckford Hall Hotel

2 rosettes

Approached by a sweeping drive through well-preened grounds, this blue-blooded Tudor pile impresses with its creeper-curtained brick fašade, soaring chimneys and carved-oak front door. Culinary style is classical country house with a contemporary sensibility, offering starters like ham hock and parsley terrine with a crispy quail's egg and pickles, followed by roast pork tenderloin with fondant potato, Savoy cabbage, and a dried ham and cider sauce, or pan-roasted cod with wild garlic, pommes Anna, purple sprouting broccoli, shallots and red wine jus. Desserts might bring the old-school comforts of lemon meringue, or seek inspiration from the continent for a vanilla pannacotta with cherries, and an Amaretto and almond tuile.
