Ambleside Road, Ecclerigg, WINDERMERE, LA23 1LH
Built in 1812 from stone quarried in the hotel's grounds, Merewood is perfectly positioned to make the best of the views over Lake Windermere. There are 20 acres of woodland and gardens, and this classic Lakeland country house is equally on the money on the inside, with period features including oak panelling in the two smart dining rooms. The local environment provides many of the ingredients for the table, with the kitchen bringing contemporary flair to the fine dining format. Start with glazed chicken wings with consommé jelly and Jerusalem artichoke mousse before a main course of cod with a cheesy topping and red wine sauce.
