Fifteen Cornwall
On The Beach,
WATERGATE BAY,
TR8 4AA
Jamie Oliver's mission is, in Fifteen's own words, to 'empower young people who are in need of a second chance', which means he has a kitchen of professional chefs overseeing young apprentices. Diners, of course, might be unaware of such worthy ideals as they take their seats in a large, light and airy room, simply decorated, its windows overlooking a two-mile stretch of beach, and peruse a menu inspired by la cucina d'Italia. Carpaccio with fresh and vibrant horseradish remoulade gets things off to a fine start, followed perhaps by local scallops with smashed Jerusalem artichokes and herby crème fraîche, or slow-cooked veal with sage polenta and cavolo nero. Expect pannacotta among desserts, maybe with sharp lime syrup or flavoured with vanilla and grappa.

Whilst the view, make sure you request a seafront table and majority of the staff are a cut above the food is nothing special - we had the lunch menu which was mediocre - the pollack with accompanying peppers was overcooked and mushy and the ginger cake lacked and sense of gingerness- They had also run out of bread and did not offer any substitute for potatoes when I said I had an intolerance - all in all great location, young enthusiastic waiting staff but an overcooked and uninspiring lunch
