Buddha Lounge

76 Front Street, TYNEMOUTH, NE30 4BP

1 rosettes

Fans of pan-Asian fusion cooking will enjoy this lively eatery. The setting is memorable: a converted church where a huge Buddha statue surveys a galleried upper floor beneath the soaring timber roof. Local ingredients and seafood from day boats shine through, appearing in vibrant ideas that take their cue from Indian, Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisines. Start with prawn and avocado futomaki rolls pointed up with wasabi and pickled beetroot, followed by Thai red curry mussels singing with the flavours of fresh chillies and coriander, or punchy teriyaki beef skewers with straw noodles. To finish, there's a properly wobbly passionfruit pannacotta with mango and passionfruit purée.
