Reflections at Alexander House

Alexander House Hotel, East Street, TURNERS HILL, RH10 4QD

1 rosettes

The handsome 17th-century mansion has moved into boutique territory after a thoroughly modern makeover, with pampering facilities to delight spa enthusiasts and a buzzy brasserie - Reflections - to lift the spirits still further (the fine-dining option is AG's Restaurant). Expect sleek chocolate-coloured leather banquettes, slate floors and subtle grey and peach tones on the walls, plus there's a champagne bar and tables in the courtyard for eating outdoors. Start with grilled, soy-and-lime-glazed mackerel fillet with fennel salad, moving on to a classic coq au vin, or red wine, radicchio and Gorgonzola risotto. Chocolate and hazelnut mousse with caramel sauce makes for a richly indulgent pud.
