The Alverton Hotel

Tregolls Road, TRURO, TR1 1ZQ

1 rosettes

Built in 1830 and designed by the same chap who gave us Truro Cathedral, The Alverton is an impressive construction of granite with manicured gardens and a swish interior - a big hit with wedding planners. Food and drink is a major part of the appeal, whether that's lunch, afternoon tea, cocktails or an evening meal in the upmarket brasserie. There is plenty of period charm and a slick, contemporary finish to the place. The menu takes a modern European path with a good showing of Cornish ingredients. There's an upscale prawn cocktail, while pan-fried scallops with pea pur?e, crispy angel hair noodles and pancetta dust shows no lack of invention. Wild sea bass gets the pan-fried treatment, too, with crab and saffron risotto, or go for roast loin of venison with wild mushrooms, smoked aubergine pur?e and a red wine sauce. Finish with lemon tart with thyme cr?me fra?che or Cornish cheeses.
