London Road, Elveden, THETFORD, IP24 3TQ
The 10,000 acres of the Guinness estate in Norfolk are the base for a modern agricultural enterprise supplying a formidable annual tonnage of fresh produce, with a raftered farm shop at its heart. The all-day restaurant it incorporates is a bright, open space with granite tables and a weekly-changing lunch menu of sensitively cooked seasonal dishes. Goats' cheese and caramelised onion tart is a straight-talking opener, followed by haddock and chips with crushed peas and chunky home-made tartare sauce, or perhaps pheasant au vin from the estate with beef dripping roasted potatoes and seasonal veg. Finish with a chocolate and Guinness layered torte.
