52 Chiswell Street, LONDON, EC1Y 4SB
Samuel Whitbread built up one of the UK's foremost beer brands on this spot, and part of his one-time Georgian brewery has been converted into this swanky hotel. There are a couple of dining options in situ, all entirely in keeping with the Georgian setting. The all-day menu deals in modern classics such as a posh burger, while the main carte offers up a little more refinement in the form of celeriac velouté with pig's cheek, scrumpy mustard and choucroute, and a main course dish of pan-fried cod with confit chicken wings. Desserts are a sophisticated bunch including blood orange tart with heather honey and stem ginger ice cream.
