The Bull at Burford

105 High Street, BURFORD, OX18 4RG

2 rosettes

The High Street of Burford is rich with historic buildings, including The Bull, which first opened its doors in 1610 as a coaching inn. The facade maintains the period character, of course, but inside there's a little more leeway to bring in a contemporary touch or two. The kitchen turns out bright, contemporary stuff, inflected with modern European ideas. Among starters, wild boar terrine arrives in the company of fig relish, and confit pork belly with black pudding bonbons and cider apple chutney. Move on to traditional fish and chips or medallions of venison and hare in a rich red wine sauce.
