Chez Maw Restaurant

Ironbridge, TELFORD, TF8 7DW

2 rosettes

On the bank of the Severn in Ironbridge, and barely a rivet's throw from the famous river-spanning construction, the Valley Hotel was once owned by Arthur Maw and his family, suppliers of ceramic tiles, hence the name of its restaurant, which looks rather spiffy after a recent makeover. Its contemporary offerings range widely, so a starter might be venison, pigeon and pheasant terrine with home-made pickle, quail's egg, and caper and raisin purée. Next up, pulled shoulder of Welsh lamb with potato rösti, plus turnip, carrot, leek and pearl barley in lamb broth. Finish with sticky toffee pudding with caramelised banana and caramel sauce.
