The modern boutique hotel is the focal point of a village of some 500 souls on the Isle of Harris. In the Pierhouse seafood restaurant, a bare boarded look keeps things simple. Fish and shellfish are strong suits, ranging from bowls of generously crammed chowder to mains of seared megrim sole in citrus and caper beurre blanc with samphire, and rainbow trout with kale in salsa verde. Meat sticklers might set a course via fried chicken livers on toasted brioche in blackberry and rosemary jus to roast Hebridean lamb rack with minted mash, before all are reunited for biscuit-based Belgian chocolate torte, served with Amaretto cream streaked with berry coulis.
