There is much to like about this relaxed country hotel with its riotously colourful gardens, heated outdoor pool and bags of traditional charm. The kitchen team turns out a wide-ranging menu taking in everything from a classic straight-up combo of fillet steak with wild mushrooms, chunky chips and grilled tomato, to more ambitious ideas along the lines of poached salmon fillet and prawns with vegetable paella and lobster and Noilly Prat sauce. Preceding this, Jersey scallops come in a tried-and-tested alliance with pancetta, capers and cauliflower purée. For pudding, that 1970s favourite tipple - advocaat - turns up in crème anglaise to go with sticky toffee pudding.
