It's hardly surprising that this easygoing beach café and restaurant is so popular when its alfresco tables have glorious views over sandy Green Island bay, and the place has the all-round, sun-drenched feel of the Mediterranean. As befits the location, fish and shellfish are high on the agenda in a repertoire that takes in classics as well as more modern ideas, plus the odd globally-influenced dish. A sauté of veal kidneys and chicken livers on toasted brioche with caramelised pears, red onion jam and blue cheese dressing makes a hearty starter to a winter season dinner, ahead of roast rack of lamb served with potato rösti, braised flageolet beans, roasted root vegetables and garlic. Considering this is the 'most southerly restaurant in the British Isles', a classic crème brûlée with shortbread makes a suitably Gallic ending.
