The Blyth Hotel

Station Road, SOUTHWOLD, IP18 6AY

1 rosettes

The Blyth ticks all of the contemporary style-led boxes needed to figure among Southwold's on-trend addresses. The beach is just a five-minute stroll away, and stripped pine floors, chunky wooden tables and a switched-on family- and dog-friendly attitude lend the place an appropriately seasidey vibe. Adnams ales are almost de rigueur in the brewery's home manor, so have a pint in the relaxed bar, then move into the classier environs of the contemporary restaurant, for appealing modern ideas built on seasonal and local materials. Expect starters along the lines of pan-fried pigeon breast with bacon, black pudding, soft-boiled quail's egg and celeriac purée, then intelligently composed main courses such as braised Dingley Dell pork belly with apple mashed potato, buttered Savoy cabbage, sage jus and crackling. Sweet treats to finish might run to dark chocolate tart with chocolate sauce, griottine cherries and chocolate brownie ice cream.
