Woodlands Lodge Hotel

Bartley Road, Woodlands, SOUTHAMPTON, SO40 7GN

1 rosettes

When we say this hotel is 'in the New Forest', we mean it. The ancient woodland can be accessed directly from the Lodge's gardens, making it the perfect spot for a walking break. Hunters restaurant, where chairs and wall panels in delicate forest green match the view from the swagged windows, serves capably rendered modern British dishes with plenty of verve. Start with a smoked haddock croquette alongside a soft-poached egg, dressed in lemony hollandaise, and proceed to rosemary-marinated lamb rump with crisp lamb terrine, kale and pomme purée in minted port jus. Finish off with spiced crumble of rhubarb, apple and pecans, served with clotted cream.
