The Bull at Broughton

Broughton, SKIPTON, BD23 3AE

1 rosettes

The Bull is part of a mini empire of four gastro-pubs run by Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft of Northcote Manor (see entry), an enterprise whose praiseworthy aim is to showcase the best of Yorkshire and Lancashire produce in a switched-on, convivial, modern pub ambience. Accordingly, the stone-built Bull has received a smartly contemporary facelift, grafting a light and airy style and casually mis-matched furniture with traditional flagstoned floors and low beamed ceilings. Obliging staff play a key part in the Bull's welcoming vibe, backed up by good beer, and no-nonsense food. A glance at the menu shows a kitchen striving for local and seasonal output - a filo pastry parcel of local seafood with Lancashire cheese fondue to start, followed by a pie of Goosnargh turkey, ham, leek and chestnuts with celeriac mash and Brussels sprouts. Puddings take no prisoners, offering deep comfort in the shape of sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream or blackcurrant Bakewell tart with clotted cream.
