In the centre of Shaftesbury this popular restaurant with rooms is housed in a former girls' boarding house. Education's loss has been the foodies' gain. Comfortably refurbished throughout, the lounge features temptingly beguiling sofas and easy chairs ideal to sink into for a pre-dinner drink, whilst the elegant dining room has linen-clothed tables and smart glassware and cutlery. Traditional Anglo-French dishes are created from top quality local ingredients, with other European influences adding excitement along the way. Baked figs wrapped in Parma ham are filled with local Gold Hill cheese and served on a bed of lamb's lettuce, spring onions and raspberries, while roasted saddle of local Seka venison comes with baby onions, pancetta and roast garlic in a Madeira sauce. Finish with a vanilla crème brûlée served with chocolate chip cookies.
