It has been honoured by Italian newspaper La Stampa as 'the English temple of Italian cuisine', which seems an extraordinary accolade for an unassuming, albeit heartily convivial restaurant. Chef-patron, the tireless Giorgio Alessio, oversees a venue done out in colour-schemes of reds and oranges, and sunny yellow and sky-blue, in the two dining rooms. The menu features simple, well-handled Italian cooking of the classic school: velvet crab with spaghetti and a creamy sauce, ravioli filled with ricotta and spinach in a tomato and basil sauce, and meaty options such as medallions of fillet steak served rare with garlic butter. Finish with pannacotta flavoured with rum.
