Ruthin Castle Hotel

Castle Street, RUTHIN, LL15 2NU

2 rosettes

In its 750-year existence, Ruthin Castle has been many things including a clinic for treating obscure internal diseases. In the early 60s it was incorporated into today's richly furnished hotel. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the octagonal, panelled Library Bar (which offers its own menu, by the way), then aim for Bertie's restaurant, named after Edward VII, a frequent visitor. Don't expect a huge choice, for the menu lists only four dishes for each course. Nonetheless this still permits plenty of permutations, one being braised rabbit boudin, followed by grilled fillet of cod with smoked bacon and potato chowder, and a rhubarb and custard dessert. Themed medieval dinners are popular.
