High Street, RUSPER, RH12 4PX
The timbered Tudor manor sits in 40 acres of sumptuous grounds with the South Downs all around it. This sylvan setting can be enjoyed from a wide terrace that overlooks the lake and gardens, before you move indoors to the modern dining room with its woodblock floor, unclothed tables and white bucket chairs. Fixed-price menus (with supplements for appetisers and pre-desserts) offer engaging, traditionally-inspired brasserie food, perhaps starting with fried scallops, seaweed and pancetta, or confit duck tian dressed in blood orange, before following on with rib-eye steak served with horseradish mash, balsamic shallots and carrot purée, or fish and chips. Puddings include banoffee tart with coffee ice cream.
