You'd never guess from her cheerful and welcoming demeanor that chef-proprietor Laura Hamilton works alone in the kitchen - there are no outward signs that she feels any pressure! This is a delightful establishment with a good deal of genteel charm, where a smartly neutral decor meets an appealing menu of unpretentious dishes based on high-quality regional produce. You might start with a vegetarian tart such as one filled with roasted beetroot and butternut squash, served with an accompanying walnut salad, or maybe a brie and hazelnut bake with a smoky bacon jam. Clearly a dab hand at vegetarian cookery, chef can also turn out some impressive meat and fish options, too, such as a main-course grilled whole black bream (marinated in coriander and lime mustard), or roast loin of lamb with caramelised onion and fig stuffing. Finish with strawberry and pink champagne cheesecake. Somehow Laura finds the time to produce her own ice cream which is sold locally (and here, of course).
