A Georgian country house on a modest scale, Glewstone Court is tucked away in the Wye Valley, three miles from Ross-on-Wye, with views of the Forest of Dean. The house boasts many period accoutrements, not least a fine curving Regency staircase, and a candlelit dining room, where much Herefordshire and other West Country produce finds its way on to the menus. A Marches tapas platter offers local charcuterie, chorizo and smoked duck breast with spicy fruit chutney to start, followed perhaps by seared sea bass with creamy, saffron-scented crayfish sauce, or local beef fillet with a choice from five sauces (including Perl Las blue cheese). The signature dessert is a brioche-and-butter pudding full of raisins and cinnamon, served with Cotswold clotted cream.
