The Jack In The Green Inn
ROCKBEARE,
Exeter,
EX5 2EE
This long-established, enticingly comfortable Devon roadside pub is a star turn; you can sink into a sofa near a crackling log fire or enjoy the banter of a convivial local crowd in the bar. The Jack's mantra - 'a pub of passion' - fits the bill to a tee; from the décor's thoughtful blend of traditional-meets-contemporary to smiling, attentive service and the kitchen's total commitment to using fresh local produce. Innovative modern British menus and flavour-packed dishes are their forte, from traditional pub grub (lamb and root vegetable pie) to more adventurous things such as slow-braised Kenniford Farm belly pork served with smoked ham hock and piccalilli, or perhaps roasted loin of Exmoor venison with braised shoulder, red cabbage and parsnip purée. To finish, there might be a milk chocolate and hazelnut mousse with salted peanut caramel.

Truly superb value for money and dog friendly. Food was exceptional quality and brilliant value for money, average prices £11-12 for a substantial portion, beautifully presented. Nicest fish and chips all holiday even though it's further from the sea. The ambience and service was lovely especially a lady called joy.
