6 Church Walk, RICHMOND, TW9 1SN
If the sun is shining on Richmond-upon-Thames, La Buvette's courtyard tables come into their own, but this place is a winner all-year-round when it comes to classic, bistro-style dining. It's a real neighbourhood joint, down a leafy walkway of the main high street, with closely packed tables and a menu of familiar dishes backed up by daily specials. A starter of rabbit and pork terrine with onion marmalade is one way to kick off, or go for scallops in a flavour-packed plateful with broad beans, bacon and persillade. Main-course braised shin of pork comes with black pudding and hispi cabbage, and there's roast salmon with crushed new potatoes and sorrel cream sauce. There's steak, too, in the form of chargrilled onglet, served rare, with garlic butter, chips and salad, and a plate of artisan French cheeses if you're room. Dessert delivers old favourites such as crème brûlée and a charlotte made with Yorkshire rhubarb.
