The French Horn

Sonning, READING, RG4 6TN

2 rosettes

The riverside setting is a treat, with the dining room opening on to a terrace, at the family-run French Horn, which is full of old-school charm with slick and well-managed service. The menu looks across the Channel for its inspiration, with a classically based repertoire (and high prices). Foie gras terrine is given a modern twist from its accompaniment of spiced caramel, and crabmeat from pineapple compôte. They might be followed by poached fillets of Dover sole with clams, samphire and saffron sauce, or roast lamb fillet with hazelnut sauce, courgettes and polenta. Francophiles can end with crêpe Suzette or crème brûlée.
