The Oaks Hotel

1 rosettes

This Edwardian country-house hotel is the kind of place where the genuine hospitality of the hands-on, husband-and-wife-team who run the place keeps the customers coming back. It helps that it's in a lovely spot, of course, on the outskirts of a village in the Exmoor National Park. The cheery yellow-walled restaurant has panoramic views and a short daily-changing dinner menu of unfussy, traditional dishes, cooked by Anne Riley. There's plenty of local produce and a genuine regional flavour; start with a delicious bacon, mushroom and cheese savoury, moving on to a tender breast of guinea fowl with morels, and finish with a flavoursome banana and ginger ice cream.
