At the southern end of Sandbanks, this large white hotel dates from the 1880s. With its sea view, tiered tables and relaxed atmosphere, The Point brasserie is as close as you will get to dining on a cruise ship without leaving dry land. The kitchen buys the best regional produce but doesn't confine itself to the fruits of the sea. Start, for instance, with duck boudin, celeriac purée, plums, toasted hazelnuts and duck sauce. Dishes are never too elaborate: a hake fillet comes with Provençal grilled vegetables and salsa verde. Vanilla pannacotta and pineapple salad is one way to finish.
