The Thomas Lord

High Street, West Meon, PETERSFIELD, GU32 1LN

1 rosettes

A proper pub with fine local ales, the Thomas Lord has a shabby-chic charm, kitted out with rustic scrubbed pine tables, well-worn oak parquet floors, church pews and a chesterfield sofa. On the food front, everything is made in-house, the garden supplies seasonal goodies, and the majority of materials come from small-scale local producers and farmers. The kitchen deals in country-pub classics - a starter of chicken liver parfait with toasted bread and ale chutney - and some more inventive ideas, as in a main course showing off prime materials in the form of pan-roasted sea bass with a beef shin croquette, Jerusalem artichoke purée and caramelised fennel. For afters, there's a well-crafted peach Melba soufflé.
