Buchan Braes Hotel

1 rosettes

The low-slung Buchan Braes won't win any architectural prizes, but it's a splendid contemporary hotel with a rural aspect and up-to-date wedding and conference facilities. There's also the Grill Room restaurant, with its open kitchen and warmly colourful decor. The modern Scottish cooking isn't all about the grill, although you might opt for a chargrilled steak or hunk of salmon. The kitchen also turns out Cullen skink terrine with balsamic glaze and parmesan, followed by rack of lamb with minted pea purée and honeyed carrots in roasting juices, or seared king scallops in spiced lentils and garlic butter. For dessert, try toffee and honeycomb vacherin.
