Treglos Hotel

Constantine Bay, PADSTOW, PL28 8JH

2 rosettes

A family-run hotel overlooking Constantine Bay near Padstow, this was converted from a Victorian house in the 1930s. Wallis Simpson stayed here before the abdication, and the smart interiors certainly look fitting for the glitterati. In a dining room done in maroon and leafy green, the menus take a modern approach, with specials built around a solid core repertoire. Proceedings might open with mackerel céviche, pickled cucumber and horseradish cream in apple vinaigrette, a curtain-raiser to pork three ways with apricot purée, date gel and five-spice veg. At the end comes a dome of 70% chocolate filled with praline mousse, served with toasted marshmallow.
